Haven Home

Haven Home, located in Gatab, Kenya, is a Christian boarding facility for nomadic children/orphans of the northern frontier of Kenya. It has been in operation for nearly forty years and is the home to 40 boys and 20 girls. The facility itself is made up of two boys dorms and one girls dorm as well as a general kitchen and common area. Each dorm has its own parents who raise and nurture the children. Because it is so old it is in need of much repair. With the help of some generous private donors we hope to see the girls dorm fully rebuilt as soon as possible. As it currently stands, the girls are without adequate plumbing and are forced to be locked in at night to avoid safety issues.

With the rebuilding of the girls dorm and the repair of the old dorm, it will be possible to open the doors to more children. There is a drastic need to bring in more girls who would otherwise be sold as wives to older polygamist tribesmen by the age of 12. It is also the only chance that many children would ever get to receive even basic education. More importantly, they will be engaged in daily prayer and bible lessons that will give them hope for a relationship with their true Creator. The dorm parents of Haven Home model what it means to be in a loving Christian family.

Jeff Heidorn is the full time missionary who oversees the entire operation of Haven Home. He and his wife, Peg, provide nurturing relationships for the children everyday. They spend time each day with the dorm parents, the cooks, and the children. They conduct bible studies with the dorm parents and have parenting classes for them. Every morning and evening Jeff leads prayer and or chapel meetings for the entire home. Jeff says, “It is through the discussions that follow these more formal times that the children ask the important God questions.”

Without your immediate help, this home is in jeopardy of not being able to meet the most basic needs of its children, such as buying school uniforms and supplying one pair of shoes per year per child. Our goal is to raise enough additional support for this home to provide adequately for twenty more children. At a cost of $40 each this amounts to only $800.00 per month. Don’t forget that with our 100% Giving Pledge not one cent will be used for anything other than providing for these children. What other charitable organization can say that?
