Letters From Kenya

Dear Friends:

New Years greetings from Haven Home! It has definitely been a full year. In addition to the regular running of Haven Home, the girls’ dorm project has been in full swing, and the Heidorns (Haven Home manager) have been home on furlough!

The year ended well with five of the Haven Home students and the son of one of the dorm parents graduating standard 8. Since our school in Gatab only goes through the 8th grade, students who want to go on to high school must go away to boarding school. The students’ scores from their final exams play a large role in what school they would be able to attend. Please pray for these young people as they make decisions about their future. We pray that all the teaching of scripture that they have received over the years will be what guides them and that they would go on to bring glory to God through their lives.

The new girls’ dorm project is progressing nicely. We are grateful to Jim Teasdale for loaning us the fundis (professionals) for a few months while he was in the states. With these two men heading up a good work crew, the building is much further along than we would have been able to accomplish in such a short time.

The fundis have gone home for the holidays, and will then return to Loy to continue work on Grace Oasis. The local work crew has been off for the holidays as well. The timing of the holiday break has worked out well, as the rains have finally come to Gatab. The work would have been greatly hindered with all the wonderful rain the Lord is blessing us with! Next week, however, the work will start up again regardless of the weather. Please pray for Jeff and Peggy Heidorn as they finish up their time in America. They plan to return to Kenya in late February, 2010.

Thank you so much to all of you who have given of your time, finances and prayers to help this project go forward.
